Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare made an immediate impact for Ajax, scoring his first goal for the club and providing an assist in their 4-2 victory over Swiss side Sion in the first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League playoff tie on Thursday night.
Arokodare started the match on the bench before replacing Marcos Leonardo with 18 minutes of normal time remaining.
The Nigeria international quickly made his presence felt, scoring Ajax’s third goal in the 74th minute to give the Dutch side a crucial advantage.
Three minutes before the final whistle, Arokodare turned provider, setting up Davy Klaassen to score Ajax’s fourth goal and complete the 4-2 victory.
The result puts Ajax in a strong position ahead of the second leg at the Johan Cruyff Arena next Thursday.
Arokodare will be hoping to continue his impressive form and make another contribution as Ajax look to secure their place in the league phase of the 2026/27 UEFA Europa Conference League.
