Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has announced that he will not pursue the presidency again if he does not win in the 2027 election. During a Hausa-language interview on Wednesday, he clarified that he will not consider a 2031 presidential bid, ending any speculation about his future plans.

When asked about returning to the race if defeated in 2027, Atiku gave a definite answer: he will not run again.

Atiku also encouraged Nigerians with Permanent Voter Cards to actively participate in the 2027 election. He emphasized the importance of not only voting but also staying at polling units to ensure votes are accurately counted. To influence Nigeria’s direction, he urged voters to take part in the electoral process for the benefit of their families and future generations.

Addressing concerns about his health and ability to govern, Atiku assured that he is fit and capable of serving as president. He stated that no doctor has declared him unfit and confidently affirmed his health.

This election could be Atiku’s last attempt at the presidency after multiple campaigns over the years. The ADC Vanguard sees this decision as a pivotal moment in his extensive political journey, which has seen him contest, lose, and return to the presidential race throughout Nigeria’s democratic era. The 2027 election may represent the final chapter of his presidential aspirations.

As the 2027 contest nears, Atiku’s announcement adds weight to his campaign as opposition parties aim to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
