Bashir Ahmad: APC Primary Was Rigged

Bashir Ahmad, National Director of Media Monitoring and Rapid Response for the City Boy Movement, has rejected claims that he secured only 16 votes during the 2022 All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the House of Representatives.

The controversy resurfaced on Thursday after Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, mocked Bashir over his unsuccessful bid for the APC ticket, alleging that the former presidential aide received just 16 votes at the primary.

Responding to the claim on his official X account on Friday, Bashir disputed the reported figure and alleged that the primary election was not conducted in a free, fair and credible manner.

According to him, there was effectively no legitimate primary election in which the 16-vote figure could have been obtained.

Bashir said the process was allegedly marred by irregularities and claimed that he had evidence, including video recordings and documents, to support his position.

He maintained that the outcome did not reflect the actual level of support he enjoyed among party members and expressed confidence that he would have won the ticket had the exercise been conducted transparently.

The APC chieftain urged Davido and his supporters to stop circulating what he described as false information about the 2022 contest.

He said the claim that he received only 16 votes was misleading because, in his view, the election itself lacked the credibility required to produce a legitimate result.

Bashir further stated that the full details of what transpired during the primary would eventually become public, suggesting that the available evidence would provide a clearer picture of the controversy.

The exchange comes amid heightened political activity in Osun State, where Davido has been campaigning in support of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Bashir, meanwhile, has been actively supporting the APC and its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, as the ruling party intensifies its campaign in the state.

The latest dispute has added another dimension to the increasingly public political exchanges between the singer and the APC chieftain.
