Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has condemned the arrest of Sunday Bisi, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun. He is calling for his immediate release. This declaration was made on Saturday, August 15, 2026, by his spokesperson Mallam Olawale Rasheed, amidst ongoing governorship elections in the state.
The statement disclosed that Bisi was arrested at his home in Ilesa shortly after voting. Adeleke mentioned that the PDP chairman was taken to an undisclosed location without any explanation for the arrest being given.
The governor criticized the arrest, claiming it was a strategy to intimidate his supporters. He also accused the APC of working with compromised security forces to hinder individuals from monitoring the election results collation.
Adeleke asserted that a larger plan exists to grant the APC unrestricted access to modify results at collation centers, potentially overturning their election victories. He described these actions as an attack on democracy and urged all parties involved not to use state institutions for manipulating the election’s outcome.
He called for the immediate release of Bisi and others he termed political prisoners across Osun State, stressing that elections need to represent the people’s will without any threats or coercion.
