BREAKING: Osun Poll — Davido Alleges Soldiers Trying to Stop Him From Entering State

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has asserted that soldiers are trying to stop him from entering Osun State amid its governorship election on Saturday.

In a post on his verified X account early Saturday, Davido stated he received reliable information about soldiers’ attempts to block his access to Osun, emphasizing that every Nigerian citizen has the right to move freely at all times.

This development follows the Nigeria Police Force’s announcement of movement restrictions across Osun State, effective from midnight Friday, August 14, until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026. The restriction is part of the security arrangements for the election, which include the presence of thousands of police officers and other security personnel.

Davido, who is the nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been actively supporting his uncle’s re-election campaign under the Accord Party banner. Governor Adeleke is seeking a second term against several contenders, including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, in this off-cycle election.

Some users suggested that the movement restrictions typical on election day could be the reason behind any security checks, whereas others voiced concerns about potential targeted measures against a prominent supporter of the sitting governor.

In response, former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad characterized Davido’s claim as “dramatic,” pointing out that security agencies had already implemented state-wide movement restrictions to ensure a peaceful election.

“You are just being dramatic, @davido. Security operators have widely announced restricted movement in Osun from midnight until 6 p.m. today due to the election. This is a standard security measure during elections everywhere and not unique to Osun. The right to freedom of movement does not mean disregarding lawful security protocols intended to maintain peace and credibility during elections,” Ahmad remarked.
