Afrobeat star Davido has criticized Iyabo Ojo’s partner and music promoter, Paulo Okoye, following his comments on the state of Afrobeat. According to NEWWORLDTIMES, Paulo had expressed concerns about the rising fees of Nigeria’s top Afrobeat artists and questioned whether the genre is “dead or in a coma.”
In response, Nigerian Grammy-nominated singer and music executive Bankulli disagreed with Paulo’s remarks, suggesting that Paulo’s comments stemmed from his inability to afford top-tier artists. Supporting Bankulli’s view, Davido commented, calling Paulo “broke.”
This exchange comes almost two years after Paulo publicly defended Davido regarding his statement about the “shambles” of Nigeria’s economy during The Big Homies House podcast.
