President Bola Tinubu convened a private meeting with governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to address the controversy surrounding the party’s Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) list.

This meeting is one in a series aimed at reviewing and potentially revising the contentious PCC list, initially released by the ruling party on August 23, 2026. The APC governors gathered at the President’s office just before 4:00 p.m. following their participation in a National Economic Council meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The discussions began on Wednesday as party leaders sought to tackle concerns that arose after the publication of the list. Notably, the inclusion of some members facing corruption charges provoked significant debate. Additionally, internal allegations suggested that key stakeholders within the party were insufficiently consulted during the list’s preparation.

According to multiple party sources, Wednesday’s talks at the Presidential Villa extended from approximately 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., failing to reach a definitive conclusion. As a result, discussions resumed on Thursday subsequent to the regular National Economic Council session.

While the full scope of proposed changes remains unconfirmed, sources close to the APC governors and senior party leaders indicated that revisions to the campaign council list are underway. One source suggested that the original list was removed from the APC’s official social media platform, with a revised version set for release pending President Tinubu’s final approval of the consultations’ outcomes.

“The list is a main agenda topic,” a source noted. “The previously contentious list has been removed from the party’s online presence.”

Another senior party figure criticized the process of creating the initial list, asserting that significant party stakeholders were insufficiently involved. “Can you believe the formation of the list didn’t involve the party?” the chieftain remarked, blaming a select group within the Presidency for its creation.

In response to the backlash, President Tinubu has taken direct action to address these concerns, with expectations for subsequent changes stemming from ongoing discussions. “The President is handling the situation, and it is expected that some modifications will result from this two-day meeting,” the source added.

This development comes as the APC ramps up preparations for the 2027 general elections amidst increased political activity within the party.
