President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received an invitation from Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to visit Singapore.

The invitation was disclosed by Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim.

Ibrahim made the disclosure in a statement issued by the Nigerian Mission House in New York.

Singapore Sends Formal Invitation

Singapore’s UN ambassador, Burhan Gafoor, delivered the invitation to Ibrahim during a visit to the Nigerian Permanent Mission House.

Gafoor presented a letter from President Shanmugaratnam.

Ibrahim expressed Nigeria’s appreciation for the invitation.

He said he would pass the message to President Tinubu.

The Nigerian envoy also indicated that Tinubu would visit Singapore in the nearest future.

Economic Reforms Draw Interest

Ibrahim said Nigeria’s economic reform programme has attracted attention beyond the country.

He identified Singapore as one of the countries showing interest in the direction of Nigeria’s economic policies.

According to him, the interest extends to issues involving national development and multilateral cooperation.

Reference to Lee Kuan Yew

Ibrahim also linked the boldness of Tinubu’s economic reforms to the transformation associated with Singapore’s former Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew.

Lee led Singapore for several decades and became closely associated with the country’s economic transformation.

The Nigerian ambassador’s comments highlight the growing interest in stronger relations between Nigeria and Singapore.

Tinubu’s proposed visit could further open discussions on economic cooperation and other areas of mutual interest.
