Former Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel has declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid in the 2027 general election, describing the President as “our father” and urging Nigerians to back his administration.

Speaking during a public engagement, Udom said President Tinubu deserves the support of Nigerians as he continues to implement policies aimed at addressing the country’s economic and security challenges.

According to the former governor, national development requires continuity, adding that the President should be given the opportunity to consolidate on the reforms initiated since assuming office.

“He is our father. We should support him and allow him to complete the work he has started,” Udom was quoted as saying.

The remarks have drawn attention within political circles, particularly because Udom Emmanuel is a prominent member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Political observers say his comments may fuel fresh debate over political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Although the 2027 election is still some time away, endorsements and coalition-building efforts have already begun to shape the political landscape, with parties and influential figures positioning themselves ahead of the contest.

Supporters of President Tinubu have welcomed Udom’s statement as a demonstration of bipartisan support, while opposition figures insist that discussions about the next election should focus on governance, economic recovery, and the welfare of Nigerians.

Political analysts believe that declarations by high-profile politicians such as Udom Emmanuel could influence political calculations in the South-South region as parties prepare for the next electoral cycle.

As preparations for the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum, more endorsements, alliances, and political consultations are expected to emerge across the country.
