Nigerian entertainer Charly Boy has opened up about how he responded after his two daughters told him about their sexuality.
The veteran musician and social commentator said he initially found the revelation difficult to process but eventually decided that supporting his adult children was more important than trying to control their personal choices.
Charly Boy spoke during an interview with Saturday Beats, where he addressed criticism that followed his previous social media comments about his daughters.
‘It was a hard pill to swallow’
According to the entertainer, his younger daughter was the first to come out as a lesbian several years ago, while his older daughter did so more recently.
He admitted that the first revelation was difficult for him to accept.
However, he said his perspective changed as he considered the fact that his daughters are adults capable of making decisions about their own lives.
Charly Boy said his older daughter had already built a family and has six children and a great-grandchild.
He argued that parents cannot dictate how an adult child should live, particularly when that person is financially independent and responsible for their choices.
Love remains his priority
Charly Boy said his response was ultimately guided by his love for his children.
He explained that he did not want disagreements over personal choices to damage his relationship with them.
The entertainer added that he had chosen to become a more supportive and open-minded father rather than remain rigid in his approach to parenting.
He said his daughters are responsible for their own lives and that his principal concern is their happiness.
Charly Boy also said he expects his adult children to remain independent rather than rely on him financially.
