The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects following the death of popular social media personality and political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil, popularly called Danshagamu.
Danshagamu was reportedly attacked at his residence in Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
Confirming the incident, the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the command had commenced a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the influencer’s death.
Kiyawa disclosed the development in a statement released on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Danshagamu was a familiar face on social media, particularly on Facebook and TikTok, where he shared commentaries on political, religious and community matters. He also had previous experience working as a reporter for a local radio station before moving into full-time content creation and political commentary.
Police said the attack took place around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, September 8.
According to the Command, suspected hoodlums allegedly forced their way into his home and inflicted injuries on him with sharp objects.
A distress report was reportedly received from the Commander of the Gaida Vigilante Group, prompting officers from the Kumbotso Police Division to respond to the scene.
Danshagamu was taken to the Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kano, for medical attention. However, a doctor reportedly pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The police said two suspects were subsequently apprehended during an intelligence-driven operation involving the Kumbotso Police Division, tactical units and community stakeholders.
Investigators are questioning the suspects as the Command works to determine their alleged roles in the incident. Police said efforts are also ongoing to track down other persons who may have connections to the attack.
Forensic examinations and statements from relevant individuals are also being conducted as part of the investigation.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, condemned the incident and assured residents that the police would continue working to bring those responsible to justice.
He said the command remained committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
Meanwhile, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed security agencies to step up investigations and ensure that anyone found responsible for the killing is prosecuted.
The governor, through his spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, described the death as shocking and unacceptable.
He called for calm among residents and warned against retaliatory actions or attempts to take the law into their own hands.
As part of measures to prevent further incidents, the police said additional patrols and intelligence operations had been introduced around Gaida and adjoining communities.
The Command added that the suspects would be taken to court once the investigation is completed.
