Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has said the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) share elements of a common political heritage, describing the relationship between the two parties as part of a broader progressive agenda.

The governor spoke on Thursday during the visit of the First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, to Anambra State.

Soludo said APGA has established a partnership with the Federal Government and the APC, arguing that the cooperation has produced a positive working relationship.

He said the ultimate objective of progressive political forces should be to contribute to Nigeria’s growth and create sustainable opportunities for citizens.

The Anambra governor recalled that APGA was registered in 2002 and described it as one of the country’s longstanding progressive political parties.

He also linked the history of APGA to the emergence of the APC, noting that members of a faction of APGA were part of the broader political coalition that eventually contributed to the formation of the APC.

“The All Progressives Congress, APC, came about 12 years later including as a consortium a faction of APGA, so even in APC there is a part of APGA DNA,” Soludo said.

According to him, APGA has remained firmly established in Anambra, where it has played a major role in the state’s politics.

“APGA has since dug-in in Anambra State and here we say that Anambra is APGA and APGA is Anambra,” the governor said.

Soludo argued that political differences should not prevent progressives from cooperating when it comes to issues affecting the country.

He said the shared vision should be a Nigeria characterised by sustainable economic growth, prosperity and greater opportunities for its people.

“As progressives we are united by the objective to see a Nigeria where there is shared and sustainable prosperity with expanding opportunities for all,” he said.

The governor further described the current relationship between APGA, the APC and the Federal Government as an arrangement that has been beneficial.

“So far, ours is a partnership that works, a partnership between APGA, the federal government, and the APC, it’s a partnership that works,” Soludo added.

His comments are coming at a time of increasing political activities and negotiations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and politicians exploring possible alliances and areas of cooperation.
